If you are migrating zone data to NS1 from a previous DNS provider, you can import a zone file as opposed to manually creating a zone and its associated records. Refer to Guide to DNS record types to view the types of records supported by the NS1 platform.
Warning
Before you begin, refer to your previous DNS provider for instructions on how to download the zone file.
-
Log into the NS1 portal and navigate to DNS > Zones.
-
Click the + button on the right to create a new zone.
-
Enter the fully qualified Domain name associated with this zone.
-
Optionally, click Override zone name to add a custom zone name, a nominal label applied to the zone. This allows you to create multiple zones pointing to the same FQDN. By default, the zone name auto-generates to match the zone FQDN you entered above.
-
Select one or more DNS networks on which to publish the zone. Optionally, you can deselect all networks to leave the zone unpublished.
-
Under Zone Settings, select the Zone file import option.
-
Click Browse files.
-
Navigate to the zone file you downloaded from your previous DNS provider and click Open.
-
Click Save zone. The new zone appears in the list and is configured with all records specified in the imported zone file.
After importing the zone file, you can apply and modify zone settings, apply Filter Chain configurations, configure monitoring, etc.
Warning
If you experience issues when attempting to upload zone files, use the named-checkzone
tool to validate your zone file before uploading. If your file passes validation and you are still experiencing issues, contact the NS1 customer support team.
